A teaser for the series was released in November 2022 after the announcement in May 2020. Since then, it has been revealed that the show will debut on Netflix in every country on January 4, 2023.

Edoardo De Angelis is an Italian film director and screenwriter. In 2006 he graduated in directing at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.

In 2011, he made his debut feature film Mozzarella Stories. Serbian director Emir Kusturica in an interview granted to Il Venerdì di Repubblica called Edoardo De Angelis a "visionary talent."

The Lying Life of Adults follows adolescent Giovanna as she faces the obstacles of adolescence. Giovanna's parents make it clear that they disapprove of the woman she is becoming, which only worsens matters.
Plot
One day, Giovanna overhears her father calling her "ugly" and yelling angrily because she is like his seldom-discussed sister Vittoria. Like any curious adolescent, Giovanna's curiosity about her enigmatic aunt is piqued after hearing her parents' conversation.

She sets off on a search quest to find the woman and learn the family's secrets. Giovanna discovers that Naples has two stark sides: the wealthy neighborhood where she grew up and the darkly interesting and less polished neighborhood where her aunt lives as she starts to spend more time with her.
