TikTok May Be Banned in the United States If Its Chinese Owners Don't Sell Their Share

According to reports, the Biden administration has threatened to impose a U.S. ban on TikTok unless its Chinese owners sell their part in the short-form video-sharing app.

Initially reported by The Wall Street Journal, the demand is claimed to have come from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. This multi-agency federal task group supervises the dangers to national security posed by international investments.

That is the most recent action in a campaign against the ByteDance-owned app, which has already been the subject of restrictions from the government.

The TikTok app has been banned by dozens of state governments since the Biden administration's directive to remove it from government devices in February.
