Been a West Bromwich Albion fan found guilty of racist abuse of Romaine Sawyers on social media.

Simon Silwood, 50, from Kingswinford, had a charge dismissed of send a message on social media that was “gross” offensive of of an indecent, obscene and menacing character”.

He will be condemned on 30 Sept.

Mr. Silwood’s defense claimed that when he… posted the word “baboon”, he actually meant use the word “buffoon”, but it was automatically corrected on his phone while sending.

The message was: posted on January 26 after West Brom met had lost 5-0 to Manchester City.

Sky Sports News reporter Rob Dorsett was one of the members of the media who procedures viewed via video link due to coronavirus restrictions in the court. However, the video link often broke down so sections of procedures were missed.

Open the case against Mr Silwood on On Thursday, prosecutor Simon Brownsey said: “The prosecution is that the message posted by Mr Silwood to the West Bromwich Albion Fan Zone Whatsapp group was intentional posted and was blatantly opposed to black professional football player Mr Romaine Sawyers.”

There was expert testimony from the prosecution who found that an unlikely result of autocorrect.

However, a defense IT specialist said they tested Mr Silwood’s phone and believed it to be a feasible outcome.
