That day, the agency reached an agreement with Tehran on a new compromise on monitoring the Iranian nuclear program, which gave hope that it could resume talks in Vienna aimed at saving the 2015 nuclear deal.

These talks have been suspended since hard-line conservative Ebrahim Raisi was elected president of Iran in June.

The Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency also expressed his regret that UN inspectors have not yet been able to reach a workshop for the manufacture of centrifuge components at the Tissa complex located in Karaj, near Tehran, also contrary to what was stipulated in the agreement of 12 September.

And the historic agreement of 2015, from which Washington unilaterally withdrew in 2018, provides for the lifting of part of the international sanctions imposed on Iran in change in its commitment to significantly reduce its nuclear program and put it under the supervision of the United Nations.
