Like many people, I have more of one voice assistant in my home. I chose that lifestyle based on the products I want for use and the amount of information I want ache out to certain companies. But it’s a hassle to ask Alexa to do this one what and Google to make another. I can not see how adding more the cooks in kitchen do everything easier.

At the very least, these new assistants should also be a choice. Specific interactions with the brand should remains hidden in a skill I choose to enable on my display or speaker, and purely just for fun. If I want to order something, Alexa should to be able to do it without passing me on to a brand voice.

The added complexity of need to speak to a specific assistant inside my assistant feels overwhelming. There’s a future where i need address each brand by name to perform a task? If “Hey, Spotify” is in my future just for start a playlist, which changes how I interact with my smart devices. It is a brain capacity in plus I need spend. whenever i want do something, me need to remember who to ask. Reminds me of annoying intermediaries of a little smart home skills that force remind me to ask Alexa to ask someone else to do something (including Spotify, if you don’t set is by default music player).

Different isn’t always better

Although we can manage our manage new cast of characters, who says which really improves the experience? Is there anything these assistants can offer me that Alexa can’t?
