WhatsApp users can now manage online status, Leave groups silently, and more

Many of us have relatives who share and forward an endless stream of “Good Mornings,” “Good Evenings,” and other greetings in WhatsApp groups. Even though it’s very annoying, leaving the WhatsApp group would be an awkward way to deal with it. WhatsApp has your back and has now come up with a way to solve this problem.

The messaging platform owned by Meta has announced several new privacy features that will give users more control over how they use WhatsApp and tools to keep their privacy safe. One of these features is the ability to leave a WhatsApp group without telling the other group members.

“WhatsApp will soon have new privacy features. You’ll be able to leave group chats without telling everyone, decide who can see when you’re online, and stop people from taking screenshots of messages that can only be seen once. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Meta, said, “We’ll keep making new ways to protect your messages and keep them as private and safe as face-to-face conversations.”

Let’s take a look at WhatsApp’s new Features.

Limit who sees your online status

Users of WhatsApp are used to seeing the “Last Seen” option next to the contact’s name. For the time being, users may choose whether they wish to share the content with everyone, only their contacts, or no one at all.

Now, a similar function that allows you to conceal your online status from contacts and friends is being introduced to WhatsApp. The previous month, a feature called “online presence control” was beta testing on iOS. You have complete control over who can view your online status and who can’t at any given moment.

After its release later this month, this function will be accessible through the desktop and mobile versions of WhatsApp.

Screenshot blocking for “View Once” messages

When a user sends a picture or video using WhatsApp’s new See Once function, the sender cannot view it again, save it, star it, or forward it. This feature was released around the end of last year. The only way to get around it was to take a screenshot, which makes sending a “View Once” message pointless. Now, WhatsApp has closed that hole as well.

It is now testing a “screenshot blocking” feature for View Once messages. This feature will do exactly what it sounds like: it will stop users from taking screenshots of View Once messages. It is in the beta stage right now and will be released “soon.”

Leave groups silently

This feature is likely to come in handy the next time you want to leave a family WhatsApp group or another annoying one so you don’t have to deal with awkward situations at your next real-life meeting. It lets people leave WhatsApp groups without telling the other members. Only the admins of the groups are notified.

This will happen on both the web version of WhatsApp and the app on your phone.

WhatsApp’s Head of Product, Ami Vora, said. ”At WhatsApp, we focus on making product features that give people more control over their messages and make them more private. Over the years, we’ve added layers of protection that work together to keep their conversations safe, and the new features are one way we keep our promise to keep messages private”.
