Wolverine chases down the murderers of Professor X in a new Marvel X-Men comic

You may have heard that Professor X died. This week readers have witnessed the impact, and it was not a mutant pity party.

X-Force # 2 showed how the new mutant nation grappled with the spreading political, tactical, and moral implications of the death of the world’s most prominent mutant. Now the X-Men have to bring him back quickly to save the dream of a mutated state. You must uphold the leadership of the island and show the world exactly why you do not mess with Krakoa.

This is where Wolverine comes in, with the unexpected help of Quentin Quire, the world’s most annoying omega-level mutant, tracking down the origin of the anti-mutant stormtroop that invaded Krakoa.

What else happens on the pages of our favorite comics? I will tell you. Welcome to Polygon’s weekly list of books our comic editor has liked over the last seven days. It is part of the social pages of superhero life, part of the reading recommendations, part of the “Look At This Cool Art” article. Here we go!

X-Force # 2

Benjamin Percy, Joshua Cassara / Marvel Comics

Benjamin Percy will soon be writing a Wolverine solo series, and it’s clear that he enjoys having the guy do what he does best, Krakoan House Front.

Killadelphia # 1

Rodney Barnes, Jason Shawn Alexander / Picture Comics

Killadelphia is a new series of pictures about a detective who picks up the last case of his deceased father – which proves to be a vampire infestation in Philadelphia – and the art is simply first-rate.

Joe Hill, Leomac’s / DC Comics

In the second issue of “Basketful of Heads,” the series actually clicked one I could not wait to read the next one. So if you’re reading the first one and you’re not sure, try the second one.

John Constantine: Hellblazer # 1

Simon Spurrier, Aaron Campbell / DC Comics

With the first edition of his new project, John Constantine is formally excluded from DC continuity, and I think what we would call Vertigo continuity if Vertigo was one more thing. Unfortunately for John, this means facing a new threat: non-smoking London bars full of hipsters.

Shazam! # 8th

Geoff Johns, Scott Kolins / DC Comics

Geoff Johns will really give us a seventh Shazam child represented by the EXCLAMATION POINT, and I’m so ready.

Books of Magic # 14

Kat Howard, Simon Spurrier, Tom Folwer and Craig Taillefer / DC Comics

The authors of Books of Magic and Hellblazer collaborated on this unique crossover theme. It’s a cute little yarn with some funny stories in the beginning.

Black Panther # 18

Ta-Nehisi Coates, Chris Sprouse and Marvel Comics

The Black Panther by Coates still swims with and delivers such poignant scenes as punctuation marks.

Valkyrie # 5

Al Ewing, Jason Aaron, Cafu / Marvel Comics

Valkyrie has a horse, his name is The Horse and he is pro-union. Solidarity.

Gift # 20

Donny Cates, Iban Coello, Zé Carlos / Marvel Comics

Last week: Boy, Absolute Carnage was anti-climactic. This week: crying because Eddie hugs the boy.

I have a lot.
