SINGAPORE — ONE 54year-old woman who used to be in the news for not wearing An face mask at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) and other places was on Monday (September 6) jailed for 16 weeks.
Phoon Chiu Yoke Pleaded Guilty in State Courts via video link to nine charges under the COVID-19 Temporary Measures Act and the Infectious Diseases Act.
13 more similar charges were considered in conviction.
phon first made headlines after a viral video of hair circulated online, die shows her being questioned by a Safe Distancing Ambassador (SDA) for not wearing a mask while visiting the MBS mall on May 15 this year.
Follow-up studies found that she allegedly committed similar offenses dating back to the center of last year.
She was first charged in court of law last year for not wearing a mask in the Newton Food Center during the Circuit Breaker period.
She later left for the UK and returned to Singapore in June- last year.
While she was subject to a Stay-Home Notice (SHN), left her hotel room at MBS on multiple occasions without wearing An face mask.
She even has removed her mask after leaving the state courts in may this year.
On June 25 this yearPhoon was not wearing a mask at Mandarin Orchard Singapore. She was later charged for this and had her bail revoked.
Hair 16 weeks jail term will be reverted to date of her remand.
for each of her continued accusations, Phoon could have been jailed for up until six months and also fined up up to $10,000.
