When the IIHF World Youth Championship kicks off on Thursday, two teams of Group B will enter the tournament with the best odds to win gold – Canada and the United States.
Canada has the advantage over its southern rival with Russia rounding out the top three. The Czech Republic, which hosts this year’s tournaments, has finished sixth out of a possible 10. Canada’s Randers are filling a talented NHL level in the form of older players and those knocking on the door of the NHL 2020 draft. Lafreniere, Canada’s biggest test, will be inside his own team when he finishes with the US on Thursday.

While the three most favored teams are all in Group B, Sweden and Finland – the fourth and fifth most favorable – are in Group A. Group A teams include Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Slovakia and the Netherlands. Kazakhstan. the United States, Russia, Canada, the Czech Republic and Germany.
Just as two teams stand at the top, two teams are forced to go down to the base in the form of Germany and Kazakhstan, who share an identical betting line to get gold at +10000.
