The animated superhero shows X-Men: The Animated Series from 1992 brought the team of excellent and evil mutants to a broader audience than just comic book readers. It ran for five long years and then ended after five seasons. Rogue, Storm, Jean Grey, Gambit, and Cyclops were among the most famous X-Men characters, and Professor X (also known as Charles Xavier) was in charge of the team. Since the end of the series, there have been several live-action versions of the Marvel comic book-based franchise. The first one, from 2000, starred Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, a strong mutant with a short temper. And now, the X-Men will be shown to a new generation of fans because Disney+ is working on X-Men ’97, a continuation of the famous 1992 series. The plot summary for the upcoming TV show was revealed during Marvel Unlimited’s X-Men: 60 Uncanny Years Live Event. It hinted that the X-Men will once again be fighting against a powerful force.
The animated show from 1992 will be brought back, and it will pick up where it left off in 1997. Several voice actors will play their roles again, including Cal Dodd as Wolverine, George Buza as Beast, Catherine Disher as Jean Grey, Lenore Zann as Rogue, Alyson Court as Jubilee, and more. They will also attend the first fan event on September 16 and 17. Also, Jennifer Hale, Ray Chase, Anniwaa Buachie, JP Karliak, AJ LoCascio, Matthew Waterson, Jeff Bennett, and Holly Chou will join the courageous team as voice actors. The official plot summary for the new animated series coming to Disney+ reads:
The original X-Men included Beast, Jubilee, Morph, Rogue, Storm, Jean Grey, Gambit, Cyclops, and Wolverine. All of them had terrific superpowers, such as psionic ability, the ability to heal themselves, telekinesis, and the ability to control kinetic energy, among many others. After X-Men: The Animated Series ended, the mutant team was brought back in the early 2000s. The three live-action movies, X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand, were mostly well-received by critics and did well at the box office. In 2011’s “X-Men: First Class,” 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” and 2016’s “X-Men: Apocalypse,” “younger” versions of the famous “X-Men” characters were played by new actors. Aside from the X-Men movies, there were also a few movies about Wolverine, such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, and Logan, a critical favorite in 2017.
But the franchise hit a rough patch with the last two movies, Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, which were both widely panned and mainly got bad reviews. But in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which emerged in 2022, Patrick Stewart played Professor Charles Xavier in a different multiverse. This hinted that the MCU might explore the world of mutants in the coming years. And since X-Men ’97 is coming out this year, fans can hope for more X-Men content shortly.
