Xavi Reflects on Defeat to Manchester

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez believes his team deserved more than their 2-1 defeat by Manchester United in the European League competition. Despite Barcelona taking the lead with a penalty goal from their veteran Polish star Robert Lewandowski in the 18th minute, Manchester United were able to secure their place in the round of 16 with a thrilling 4-3 win over Barcelona on aggregate. The first leg match had ended in a 2-2 draw, with Manchester United winning 3-4 in the total of away and home games.

Xavi confirmed that the players’ performance in the Old Trafford stadium should have had a higher return, explaining in statements to the “Movistar Plus” platform after the match: “In elimination matches like this, the details are important, I think we deserved more. The draw took us. We lost the ball and they drew. They (Manchester) played more forcefully and we fell further in the second half.”

Despite the defeat, Xavi is confident that his team put in a strong performance and believes that they deserved more than what they got. He believes that the details in the match were important and that Manchester United played more forcefully and this caused Barcelona to fall further in the second half.
