Local sources in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, confirmed that the Ministry of Communications in the government of the internationally unrecognized Houthi terrorist militia has banned special instant messaging programs.
He said the Houthi militia banned the popular “zoom” communications program and other programs like imo and Google Duo.
He added, citing specialists, that the Houthi group is practicing unprecedented frivolity in the telecommunications sector. in general, since it is the sector that the group still controls over all the regions of the republic.
An independent Yemeni initiative recently revealed information and documents on the extent of Iranian interference in the telecommunications sector in Yemen, as it is exploited for the benefit of the Houthi group in the aspect of intelligence, investments and finance.
A report entitled “Houthi ‘Control of the Telecommunications Sector in Yemen: Telecommunications as a Tool of War Not a Service “, published by the Yemeni Reconquest Initiative, stated that the communications sector constitutes one of the most important financial and logistical resources for the Houthis militias to continue their war against the Yemeni people, as well as exploiting communications in the its crimes and violations against opponents, and its use to violate the sanctity and privacy of citizens and militia opponents by spying on their communications and monitoring their movements with the aim of blackmailing and subjugating them in the service of his tendencies, ideas and beliefs.
He stressed the Houthi militia’s use of telecommunication services as a tool of its media discourse by blocking websites and applications and forcing citizens to follow the militia’s websites and news, and leveraging the telecom sector’s large revenues to finance its wars.
Since their invasion of the capital, Sanaa, in September 2014, Houthi militias have exploited the capabilities of the state and its institutions, in in particular, the Ministry of Communications and Security Services, to impose censorship and telephone wiretapping on its opponents and opponents, and to carry out arrests, kidnappings and forced disappearances on the basis of interception operations and telephone messages of citizens.
