Yemeni Foreign Ministry in Washington: Houthis must be classified as a terrorist group

Today, Sunday, Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak held discussions with the US Ambassador in Yemen, Stephen Fagin, of the developments in the Yemeni arena and assured him of the importance of the support of the international community to classify the Houthis as a “terrorist group”.

According to the Yemeni News Agency, the talks included a review of the repercussions of the Houthi group’s continued attacks on shipping, economic and oil installations.

The agency added that the two sides have discussed the difficulties hampering the process pace after the escalation of the Houthis “and their threat to international navigation, international security and pace”.

Bin Mubarak indicated that the government is proceeding with the procedures for the implementation of its recent decision to classify the armed group as a “terrorist organization”, underlining the importance of the international community’s support for such decisions.

For his part, the US ambassador renewed Washington’s condemnation of the Houthi attacks on oil installations, affirming his country’s support for Yemen’s security, stability and unity, according to the Yemeni News Agency.
