Yemeni Information Minister: We renew the warning of an imminent humanitarian disaster in Abdiya

Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Iran renewed his warning about an imminent humanitarian catastrophe following the Houthis siege of Abdiya district, south of Marib, nearly a month ago.

Al-Eryani also warned that the Abdiya management’s supplies of medicines and medical supplies had run out and that equipment had stopped in the district’s only hospital due to running out of diesel fuel and total power outages.

Al-Eryani said medical sources in the district confirmed that 160 hundred and sixty civilians were injured, including women and children, as a result of indiscriminate bombing by Houthi militias with various types of heavy and medium weapons for villages and homes. The only hospital in the district was not in unable to provide services and it was not possible to evacuate people in other areas due to the siege.

In addition, the Yemeni Defense Ministry and the General Staff urged citizens not to approach or pass the “Harib – Al-Jawbah” road in Marib, in how much area of military operations.

The Ministry called on all citizens and residents to respect them in order to preserve their lives and assets.

For its part, coalition forces to bolster legitimacy in Yemen have affirmed their support for the operations and procedures of the Yemeni Ministry of Defense to protect civilians in Abdiya, Marib, and that all military operations in Yemen comply with the law. international and humanitarian.

In this context, the Yemeni government sent a letter to the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and the UN Security Council on Tuesday evening, in which examined the serious violations committed by the Houthi militias against civilians, in particularly in the district of Abdiya in the governorate of Marib.

The letter delivered by the Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations, Abdullah Al-Saadi, presented the crimes of the Houthi militias against the children of Abdiya, represented by their tight siege of the district from 21 September 2021, which has exacerbated the humanitarian situation, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

The letter accused the Houthi militia of depriving Abdiya’s 5,300 families (totaling 35,000 civilians) of access to food, water, medicine and baby milk for nearly three weeks, which has so far led to the deaths of at least 3 civilians. and that lack of food and water has forced civilians to drink contaminated water, which could lead to a health disaster in a country that has not fully recovered from the cholera epidemic.

She pointed out that at least 9,827 children in Abdiya suffer from malnutrition, of which 2,465 suffer from acute malnutrition, while 3,451 women are in need of health care, while this siege deprives 34 patients of access to urgent health care, 23 of whom suffer from acute malnutrition. . Of kidney failure, 11 suffer from cancer.
