You won’t believe your eyes! Dark Souls 2 just got a major upgrade, leaving even Elden Ring in the dust.

The Best Graphic Mod for Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II was released in 2014, so the game is getting a few years old. But PC gamers are always more creative to improve their favorite games, and a mod updates it graphically (all images in the article below are from the mod).

Already Voted Best Graphic Mod for Dark Souls II

The mod DS2LIGHTINGENGINE SOFTS, created by modder Ganaboy, is available now on Nexus. The game has not aged very well and it is true that this mod is really worth it. It changes in particular the lighting of the game (as the name suggests). It adds volumetric fog, a High Definition Ground Truth Ambient Occlusion, and updated shaders, among other graphical improvements and features. The mod is still in early-development but it already renders very, very well visually.

Tested on Seven Graphics Cards

The mod is still in alpha but will continue to improve and add features in the future. Note, however, that you will need a correct configuration to make it run. The mod has been tested on seven graphics cards, and here are the framerates announced by the creator:

  • GTX 1050TI = 60 FPS
  • GTX 1070 = 60 FPS
  • GTX 1080 = 60 FPS
  • GTX 1080TI = 60 FPS
  • RTX 3080 = 60 FPS
  • RX 5700XT = 50-60 FPS (some optimization issues)
  • Vega 56 = 45-50 FPS

The mod supports 1080p, 1440p, and 4K. Also note that it is compatible with the online mode and its anti-cheat. On the other hand, the mod is incompatible with DebugManager.

Dark Souls II, a Game to Rediscover

With this mod, Dark Souls II is completely updated from a graphical point of view. Some even claim that it looks better than the (much) newer Elden Ring. This is a great opportunity for players to rediscover the excellent second episode of the Dark Souls saga, which was critically acclaimed despite its rather particular form. You can find our review on the site, where it received a 17/20 rating in 2014 upon release. On the Metacritic ratings aggregator, it holds an average score of 91/100. In 2014, it won the Game of the Year award at the Golden Joystick Awards.

Dark Souls II is available now on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
