Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Expands to Comics with Prequel Series

Zack Snyder's Epic Sci-Fi Fantasy Rebel Moon

Titan Comics has announced that Zack Snyder’s upcoming film Rebel Moon will be getting a prequel miniseries called House of the Bloodaxe. This comic series, written by Magdalene Visaggio and illustrated by Clark Bint, will delve into the backstory of the film’s characters and provide essential reading for fans who want to learn more about the Rebel Moon universe.

Exploring the Bloodaxe Family’s History

Set five years before the events of the film, House of the Bloodaxe will focus on outlaw revolutionaries Devra and Darrian Bloodaxe, portrayed by Cleopatra Coleman and Ray Fisher. The series will delve into their formidable family’s history and promises to deliver the same levels of drama, action, and high emotional stakes that Zack Snyder is known for. The comic also showcases variant covers by ARTGERM, Rafael Albuquerque, Baldemar Rivas, and Andrea Olimpieri.

An Intriguing Family Conflict

Zack Snyder expressed his excitement about collaborating with Magdalene Visaggio to explore the complex backstory of the Bloodaxe siblings. He considers House of the Bloodaxe as a “Shakespearean tragedy” that delves into themes of family conflict, personal struggle, failure, and the consequences that follow. The comic will provide readers with insight into the motivations of the characters and the genesis of the rebellion.

Expanding the Rebel Moon Universe

Zack Snyder has assured fans that the Rebel Moon universe will extend beyond the initial two films, A Child of Fire and The Scargiver. With plans for additional movies and a co-op action game in development, there will be plenty more to explore in this expansive sci-fi universe. However, the future of a tabletop RPG based on the film remains uncertain due to an ongoing lawsuit.

The Conflict on Planet Shasu

The official synopsis of House of the Bloodaxe gives a glimpse into the story: as war looms on the planet Shasu, the leader of the Bloodaxe family must reconcile his father’s dominating legacy with the desire to maintain peace. The comic explores the internal conflicts within the protagonist and his family, which have the potential to ignite a full-scale war on the planet.

Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe will debut its first issue on January 10, 2024. In the meantime, fans can anticipate the release of Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire on December 22, which will be available exclusively on Netflix.
