Zelensky: We need emergency energy assistance of around 800 billion euros

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky estimated on Tuesday that his country, whose energy infrastructure has been damaged by Russian attacks, needs “at least 800 million euros” in emergency aid to meet the needs of the population during the winter season.

“We need different categories of equipment, transformers and equipment used to repair high-voltage grids and gas turbines,” Zelensky said in video link during the opening of an international conference in solidarity with Ukraine in Paris.

He added: “Our energy system needs at least until the end of the heating season emergency assistance from the European energy system, i.e. the import of electricity from EU countries in Ukraine”.

While noting that this “will cost around 800 million euros”.

1.5 billion euros

He also added: “We are making every effort to address energy terrorism,” according to his description, estimating the cost of “the rapid repair of infrastructure destroyed by Russian attacks” at around 1.5 billion euros.

Interestingly, France is organizing the international conference in support of Ukraine to “help Ukrainians get through the winter,” as President Emmanuel Macron put it, as Russian forces have launched a campaign to destroy energy infrastructure.

Since last October, Moscow has targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in a series of missile and drone attacks. Kiev acknowledged that every thermal and hydroelectric power station in the country was damaged.
