Hints
Today’s Connections brand of puzzle joy—specifically Strands—comes with a theme that feels almost unfairly obvious once it clicks. Still, if you’re finding it hard to “unscramble” the board into clean word paths, you’re not alone.
Theme (without spoiling the full set): We all saw it.
If that’s not doing the trick, lean into the vibe: think of things that are blatantly noticeable, the kind of facts nobody can pretend they missed. In other words, when the answer is right, it won’t feel subtle.
To generate in-game hints efficiently, here are some words you can try finding first. Any four-letter-or-longer word you spot should help you unlock theme progress.
Trial words that help reveal the theme: RUST, VOTE, CLEAR, NEAR, BLAT, NOTE, FLAG, REAL.
Once you start pulling out the obvious “sight” words, the remaining theme terms tend to line up quickly. The only catch is that the spangram is designed to feel like a bigger, cleaner “version” of the same idea—so when you see a suspiciously fitting long path, don’t stop short.
Answers
Spangram: CLEARCUT
To find it, start with the C located three letters to the right on the bottom row, then follow the winding path to finish the theme word.
Non-spangram answers: OVERT, BRAZEN, BLATANT, OBVIOUS, GLARING, FLAGRANT.
At this point, the puzzle’s structure makes a kind of sense: all the remaining letters get used when you’ve assembled every term that means “so noticeable it can’t be denied.” If you got hung up, it was probably because several entries share overlapping meanings—so the trick is to trust the board layout and commit to the exact spelling as soon as the path “locks in.”
And if you’re comparing notes with other puzzle solvers today, the common experience seems to be the same: the theme is obvious in retrospect, but the step from “I know what it’s about” to “I can place the words” is where the challenge lives.
