  • Production Relocation: After filming for three years in Vancouver, CBS has moved the production of Tracker to Los Angeles to utilize a $48 million tax credit.
  • A New Narrative Arc: Season 4 shifts focus from the mystery of Ashton Shaw’s death to a new overarching plot involving the Chrono Stasis Institute and damaging secrets about Colter Shaw’s childhood.

Production Relocation and the Season 4 Premiere

After three seasons, CBS is finally moving a major component of its hit series. Production for Season 4 has officially relocated from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Los Angeles, California. This shift was made to take advantage of a $48 million tax credit offered by the state. The series, which is based on the 2019 novel “The Never Game” by Jeffery Deaver, continues to be a priority for the network after becoming the most-watched scripted series on CBS in 2025, reaching approximately 16.4 million multiplatform viewers.

According to the CBS Fall 2026 Schedule, the new season is set to debut on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 9:30 PM ET. Following the initial launch, the Season 4 Premiere will settle into its regular Sunday night time slot at 9:00 PM ET starting October 11, 2026. In this new time slot, the show will follow the new series “Marshals”.

Shifting the Narrative Focus

The series is taking a major change in its storytelling. For the first three seasons, the central plot revolved around the mystery regarding the death of Ashton Shaw, the father of protagonist Colter Shaw. The Season 3 finale episodes, “Chrono Stasis” and “The Best Ones,” successfully concluded this investigation. With that chapter closed, the show is shifting its core narrative focus toward a new thread involving secret government research.

Showrunner Elwood Reid indicates that Season 4 will examine the “Chrono Stasis Institute” and various experiments involving gifted children. Colter’s father was allegedly part of these operations, adding a new layer to the family history. Justin Hartley, who serves as both the lead actor and an executive producer, will lead the series into this darker territory as Colter Shaw explores these revelations.

Cast Returns and New Family Mysteries

Fans can expect a significant Special Guest Return as Jensen Ackles is confirmed to reprise his role as Russell Shaw. His character is expected to play a central part in the new family mystery. The plot thickens as Russell receives a file containing damaging information regarding what Ashton Shaw did to Colter during his childhood. This setup promises a more personal and intense look into the Shaw family dynamic.

While the production has moved and the story has evolved, some familiar faces remain. Fiona Rene, who portrays attorney Reenie Greene, is confirmed as one of the few original main cast members returning for the fourth season. For those looking to catch up before the new episodes arrive, Season 3 of Tracker will be available for streaming on Hulu starting September 4, 2026.
