- C.A.R.R.I Armory Expansion: This update adds the Superior Shield Implant and Superior Backpack, with a purchase limit of three items per week for each account.

Bungie has rolled out Update 1.031 (Internal Version 1.1.9) for Marathon as of September 1, 2026. This patch is currently live on PlayStation 5 and PC, introducing a series of economy changes and technical fixes. These updates build on the progress made in the Marathon Update 1.030 Patch Notes: Economy & Loot Buffs, which set the stage for these new armory additions. The main focus here is expanding high-tier utility options and squashing the progression bugs that have been annoying players during Season 2.
Rook’s Role and Black-Market Inventory Expansion
One of the more interesting changes in version 1.031 is the expanded stock for the vendor known as Rook. If you are new to the orbital hub, Rook is a neutral black-market dealer found in the Shadow Annex. You can find him in a dim sub-level of the station, usually marked by flickering purple neon signs and piles of high-tech salvage. Rook sells gear that you typically can’t get through official UESC channels, making him a go-to for Runners who rely on stealth.
For the rest of Season 2, Rook’s inventory now includes the Compromised Sneak Pack, several Claymores, a Depleted Self Revive, and a Signal Jammer. These items offer more ways to play defensively. While other titles are focusing heavily on stability, as seen in the Stalker 2 Update 1.020 Patch Notes: Hotfix 2.0.4 Crash Fixes, Marathon is quickly adding new tools to keep the gameplay meta from getting stale.
CyberAcme Commendations and Economy Shifts
The game’s economy has seen a rework regarding CyberAcme Commendations. For those still trying to figure out the best farm, these commendations are earned by extracting from high-threat sectors or finishing elite “Black-Op” contracts. They are intended as a high-stakes currency for experienced players. Bungie has lowered the barrier for entry by cutting the costs of several items in the C.A.R.R.I Armory. For instance, the Deluxe Backpack is down from 20 to 15 commendations, and the Superior Key Template price was slashed from 75 to 50.
The C.A.R.R.I Armory now also carries the Superior Shield Implant and the Superior Backpack. These are top-tier items built for deep-zone runs where hazards and enemy counts are at their highest. To keep the power balance in check and prevent the market from being flooded with high-tier gear, Bungie is limiting these new superior items to a maximum of three purchases per week per account.
PlayStation 5 Specific Enhancements and Map Fixes
This update pays special attention to the PlayStation 5 version. Players had previously flagged performance drops during heavy action on the Cryo Archive map. Update 1.031 fixes this by stabilizing the 120Hz mode. The DualSense haptic feedback has also been tuned; triggers now provide more realistic resistance based on your weapon caliber, and environmental warnings like proximity mines vibrate with more precision. This emphasis on console polish mirrors the work seen in the Black Ops 2 Update 1.009 Patch Notes: Security & PS5 Fixes, ensuring PS5 users get a smooth, immersive experience.
Maps also received some love, specifically a collision exploit in the Cryo Archive where players could slip out of the map for an unfair advantage. The Sponsored Night Marsh variant has also been added back into the rotation after lighting fixes, and the doors in the Compiler boss fight should now open correctly every time.
Contract Progression and Bug Fixes
Bungie has cleared up several progression snags in this build. The “Return on Investment 4/5” contract was previously broken, making objectives non-interactive if you moved too far away. That is fixed now, along with “Unsanctioned Hostilities 5/5,” which finally tracks items looted from other players correctly. Additionally, the Full-Auto Selector mod description has been updated; it previously hinted at a faster rate of fire, but it now correctly states that it only changes the fire mode. For those who hit the prestige cap last season, the Century Runner emblem can now be claimed retroactively.
You can check out the full list of changes on the Bungie Official Site or the Marathon Official Website. These frequent updates show that Bungie is committed to refining the extraction shooter loop as the player base grows.
