Mortal Shell 2 update 1.000.008 is now live for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. This patch adjusts the game economy and adds several items to reward exploration. The update focuses on removing previous resource limits and fixing technical stability issues reported since launch.
Fragile Tarstones and Economic Changes
A major part of this update is the addition of Fragile Tarstones, which offer passive bonuses with a durability cost. The Glimpse Stone loses durability as enemies are killed, eventually breaking to reward the player with Glimpses. Egon’s Stone allows players to revive at a dungeon entrance; while it loses durability, the stone’s eventual destruction ensures the death doesn’t result in losing Gloom. These items are no longer unique, so players can find them multiple times or buy them from Merrick, whose inventory now refreshes as the story progresses.
The developers have adjusted the resource system so Glimpses and Tarcores are now unlimited, providing a way for players to max out every Shell in a single run. To help with this, a new respec item called Mether’s Severance has been added. Give this to Zhirelle, the Shell keeper, to reset a Shell and reclaim all spent Glimpses. Additionally, the Collector now sells Tarcores, and reward chests in the first two regions have been updated with better loot.
Combat Rebalancing and Weapon Adjustments
Combat mechanics have been tuned in version 1.000.008. The Obsidian Hammer and Great Martyr’s Blade both deal higher damage. For Axatana users, the weapon ability now provides invulnerability frames and applies Fragile stacks to enemies, making it much more effective. Heavy weapons generally have better poise and damage to ensure they feel useful against tougher enemies.
The riposte system is more effective in the late game and New Game Plus. Damage from ripostes now scales with enemy health, keeping them tactical regardless of the difficulty. Recovery animations are shorter, giving players control back faster after a successful parry. Enemy AI has also been adjusted; tracking was reduced to prevent enemies from performing unnatural pivots during their attacks.
Technical Fixes and Stability Improvements
Technical performance was a priority for this release. A new save-handling system prevents file corruption during unexpected crashes. Major softlocks, such as being trapped in Vatra’s Temple or Hilga’s Cauldron, have been fixed. The update also patches various “stuck spots” in the geometry, including gaps in Eredrim’s castle and collision holes in the sunken village dungeon.
On the performance side, crowd density was reduced in intensive areas to maintain a steady frame rate on consoles. PC users get a new “Increased Geometry Budgets” graphics option, though it is off by default to save VRAM. Hardware support expanded to include Switch Pro 2 controllers and improved Steam Deck detection, including updated button glyphs.
Environmental and World Updates
Exploring Fainweald and Mammon is now more rewarding. New Beacons have been placed throughout these zones, active during daylight hours. Some world chests that caused progression bugs were replaced with direct item pickups. To speed up travel, a teleporter now appears in the dungeon after the Grisha pit fight. Note that the second Trollweed still remains undiscovered by the community.
Finally, audio and narrative scenes were polished. Interactions with Rickart and Vratko were adjusted to fix fading issues. New audio stingers play during successful ripostes, and older voice lines were reprocessed for better clarity. These changes, along with bug fixes for Shell abilities like Eredrim’s Shoulder Bash and Genessa’s dashes, create a more stable experience for all players.
