Apple officially released iOS 27 to the public on September 14, 2026, bringing a dedicated customization tool for the “Liquid Glass” interface. The update introduces a specific adjustment slider that allows users to balance the aesthetic depth of the glass-like UI with the practical need for text legibility, a point of feedback since the design language debuted in 2025.
The new controls are found in the Settings app under Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass. This menu features a granular slider ranging from “Clear” to “Tinted.” The Clear setting maximizes transparency and the signature refractive look of the interface, while the Tinted setting increases opacity. Choosing the Tinted option provides higher contrast, which can make navigation easier in high-glare environments or for users who find the default transparency distracting.
The inclusion of this slider marks a refinement of the design language Apple introduced with iOS 26. To simplify its branding, Apple skipped several version numbers in 2025, jumping from iOS 18 to iOS 26 to synchronize the software version with the calendar year. As a result, iOS 27 is the standard release for 2026.
Compatibility for the update extends back several generations. According to official release details, iOS 27 is available for the iPhone 11 and all newer models, including the iPhone 18.
