FromSoftware has released a new technical update for Elden Ring Nightreign, focusing on the game’s infrastructure rather than new gameplay features. The update, identified as Version 1.23 on PlayStation 4 and Version 1.003.004 on PlayStation 5, arrived on September 18, 2026. This patch is a maintenance-focused release and follows the major content expansions seen in late 2025 and early 2026.
Directed by Junya Ishizaki, Elden Ring Nightreign is a standalone co-op roguelike spin-off set within the Elden Ring universe. Unlike a traditional expansion to the original 2022 title, Nightreign utilizes a session-based structure where players face escalating waves of enemies and bosses.
Technical Changes and Stability
The primary objective of the September 18 update is to reinforce the game’s multiplayer environment. As a co-op centric title, maintaining consistent connectivity is vital for the session-based gameplay loop. The following technical adjustments are included in the 1.23/1.003.004 release:
- Online Security: Improvements to the game’s internal security protocols to protect players during matchmaking.
- Network Stability: General fixes to reduce latency and improve the consistency of co-op sessions across PlayStation, PC, and Xbox platforms.
According to the official patch details, this update does not include any new game content, story chapters, or bosses. Players looking for character balance changes should note that these were last addressed significantly in Patch 1.03.2 on January 15, 2026, which implemented class buffs for the Raider, Guardian, and Executor.
Context of Post-Launch Content
While the current patch is strictly technical, it serves to support the heavy content added in previous months. The game’s first major expansion, The Forsaken Hollows, launched on December 4, 2025. That DLC introduced the “Shifting Earth” mechanic, which dynamically alters the terrain of the roguelike runs.
The Forsaken Hollows also expanded the available character classes and boss roster, including:
- The Scholar: A magic-focused class designed for utility and ranged damage.
- The Undertaker: A heavy melee class with high survivability and crowd control capabilities.
- New Nightlords: Two major boss encounters, Weapon Bequeathed Harmonia and the Dreglord, were added to the end-of-run rotation.
Gameplay Impact
For active players, the September 18 update means a more stable experience during high-intensity co-op runs, particularly in the later stages of a Nightreign session where network desync can lead to failed runs. However, since there are no numeric adjustments to weapons or enemy health pools, existing builds and strategies remain unaffected. Players should ensure their clients are updated to the latest version to maintain access to online features.
