Prime Video has cancelled the action-comedy series Ride or Die after a single season, despite the show ranking as the platform’s most-watched new scripted series in the United States for the 12-month period ending in July 2026.
The series, which stars Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer, premiered all eight episodes on July 15, 2026. While Prime Video has opted not to move forward with a second season, Paramount Television Studios is reportedly shopping the series to other potential buyers in hopes of finding a new home for the production.

The cancellation comes as a surprise given the show’s significant viewership and critical reception. Ride or Die maintained a presence in the Nielsen streaming Top 10 for five consecutive weeks and currently holds a 96% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. According to internal data, the series outperformed other recently renewed Amazon titles in terms of raw U.S. viewership during its debut window.
The plot of the series follows best friends Judith Burton (Waddingham) and Debbie Claybourne (Spencer). The central conflict arises when it is revealed that Judith has been living a double life as a secret international assassin, pulling the two women into a high-stakes world of espionage and action.
Leadership Shifts at Amazon MGM Studios
The decision to end Ride or Die coincides with a period of executive restructuring at Amazon MGM Studios. The studio recently saw the exit of drama head Odetta Watkins. Such leadership changes often result in a shift in creative priorities, which can affect even high-performing series that were greenlit under previous administrations.
While Prime Video is moving on from the series, the strong Nielsen performance and critical acclaim provide Paramount with a solid case while pitching the show to rival streaming services or linear networks. For now, the first season remains available on Prime Video, though its long-term availability may depend on whether another platform acquires the rights for a second season.
