After more than a decade of horror storytelling, American Horror Story released its landmark thirteenth season. Titled AHS: 13, the new installment premiered on September 24, 2026, on FX and Hulu.
The ‘Ultimate Evil’ Crossover Event
Narratively, AHS: 13 is positioned as a massive crossover event that brings together characters from all 12 previous seasons. The plot centers on these disparate figures uniting to defeat an “ultimate evil.” This ambitious scope has required the series’ lead actors to take on unprecedented workloads, with several stars portraying multiple returning characters simultaneously.
Sarah Paulson is reported to be playing between six and seven different roles this season, while Evan Peters is slated to portray five characters. Jessica Lange also returns to the franchise in a major capacity. During an appearance on Good Morning America, Lange confirmed she is reprising four of her most iconic roles—Constance Langdon, Sister Jude, Fiona Goode, and Elsa Mars—while also introducing a fifth, mystery character to the AHS mythos.
Release Schedule and Scrapped Crossovers
The season follows a unique episode release schedule, unfolding over a five-week period. The season launched with a triple-episode drop and will continue with a mix of trios and pairs, eventually concluding with the season finale on October 29, 2026, just ahead of Halloween.
While the season successfully integrated a dozen previous storylines, one planned crossover did not make the final cut. Ryan Murphy confirmed that a sequence involving the Scream Queens universe and guest star Ariana Grande was ultimately scrapped. The crossover was canceled due to scheduling conflicts with Grande’s “Eternal Sunshine” tour, which prevented her from filming the necessary scenes for the season.
