Grokipedia, Elon Musk’s AI-driven encyclopedia project, has resumed updating its article entries following a five-month period of inactivity. The platform, which positions itself as a “truth-seeking” alternative to Wikipedia, began showing new activity on September 29, 2026, ending a freeze that had been in place since late April.
High-profile pages on the site, including entries for Barack Obama and Elon Musk, now display “Fact-checked by Grok” timestamps dated as recently as September 30, 2026. The resumption follows a stretch of stagnation that began on April 24, 2026, during which the platform ceased reflecting current events or reviewing user-submitted changes. Research published by Lawfare previously highlighted that Grokipedia stopped reviewing edits during this window without notifying its user base.
Corporate Restructuring and v0.2
The period of inactivity coincided with significant structural changes within Musk’s artificial intelligence ventures. SpaceX acquired xAI in February 2026, and the division was subsequently rebranded as SpaceXAI in July 2026. This transition appears to have impacted the development cycle of Grokipedia, which was a core product of the original xAI entity.
Benji Taylor, Head of Design at SpaceXAI, recently addressed the platform’s status by confirming that “v0.2” is currently in development. Taylor stated in a post that the upcoming version would be “better than ever,” though he did not provide a specific release date for the full overhaul.
While the site is active again, the quality of the new updates remains under observation. Many of the articles refreshed in late September contain a standardized placeholder note advising readers to “recheck all references and sources.”
Despite the lack of updates during the middle of 2026, Grokipedia maintained a consistent audience. Internal data and third-party estimates suggest the site received approximately 6.7 million visits in June 2026, even while its content remained frozen. The current “thaw” in updates suggests SpaceXAI is reallocating resources to the project as it moves toward the v0.2 milestone.
