Thirty-seven years after its theatrical debut in 1989, the inspirational drama Dead Poets Society has officially arrived in ultra-high definition. Walt Disney Home Entertainment released the film on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and digital platforms on September 29, 2026, marking the first time the Robin Williams classic has been available in the format.
The 4K release, published under the 20th Century Studios banner, features a brand-new restoration of the film. Technical specifications for the new edition include Dolby Vision and High Dynamic Range (HDR10), which provide enhanced color depth and contrast compared to previous home media versions. The audio has also been upgraded to a Dolby Atmos track, offering a more immersive soundscape for Peter Weir’s Oscar-winning drama.
Definitive Technical Restoration and Bonus Content
The release is packaged as a two-disc combo pack, which includes both the new 4K Blu-ray and a standard Blu-ray disc. This edition is designed to be a definitive version for collectors, combining the visual overhaul with a suite of archival and rare bonus materials.
Included in the supplements is a “Cinematography Master Class” workshop, providing a technical breakdown of the film’s visual style. Other featured bonus materials include:

- Raw Takes: A look at unedited footage from the set.
- Master of Sound: Alan Splet: A tribute to the film’s sound designer.
