Epic Games has released Fortnite version v42.30 (Update 5.22) as of October 1, 2026, across PC, consoles, and mobile platforms. The update focuses on a major visual restoration of the Chapter 1 aesthetic for the Fortnite OG Island and introduces a new asset handling system for PC users to improve performance and fidelity.
Epic Quality Assets for PC
For PC players, the “High Resolution Textures” option has been replaced by “Epic Quality Assets.” This change allows for the local installation of map terrain and objects, which reduces the game’s reliance on real-time asset streaming. By hosting these assets locally, players can expect more consistent visual quality during matches, though it requires additional storage space compared to the legacy streaming method.
Fortnite OG Visual Restoration
This update implements significant adjustments to terrain, foliage, and lighting to more accurately mirror the original Chapter 1 environment. Key restorations include:
- Restored geysers located near Salty Springs.
- The original visual model for “Grandma’s House.”
- Adjusted lighting and foliage assets to match the legacy Fortnite style.
Tilted Town and Reality Waves
As part of the ongoing map shifts, Tilted Town has replaced Gotham City. This location reinstates the “No Building” and “No Breaking” zone rules, forcing players to rely on natural cover and existing structures. The loot pool within the Tilted Town boundaries has been specificially tailored to its theme, unvaulting the following weapons for use in the zone:
- Hunting Rifle
- Infantry Rifle
- Six Shooter
- Double Barrel Shotgun
Gameplay and Mechanics Adjustments
Several core gameplay mechanics have been reverted or refined in v42.30. According to official Fortnite Community notes, drivable Reboot Vans have been removed and replaced with the classic stationary Reboot Vans.
Item pickup prioritization has also been improved. The logic now favors usable items over full stacks of ammunition, resources, or consumables, making it easier for players to grab weapons in crowded loot piles.
Known Issues
Epic Games has identified a specific visual bug on the Nintendo Switch 2 where “Weak Points” may fail to appear on destructible objects when harvesting materials. A permanent fix for this visibility issue is scheduled for the v42.40 update.
