Slow Horses Season 8 Begins Filming as Series Approaches Novel Source Limit

Apple TV+ is maintaining its rapid production pace for the acclaimed espionage drama Slow Horses, with filming for Season 8 now officially underway. The update comes shortly after Apple officially renewed the series for an eighth season on September 15, 2026, just one day before the Season 6 premiere.

In a late September 2026 interview, cast member Christopher Chung confirmed that production on Season 8 has begun, following the completion of filming for Season 7. This back-to-back production schedule has allowed the series to release new chapters with unusual frequency, but it also brings the show closer to the end of its source material than ever before.

Accelerating Toward the Source Material

The series is currently navigating a significant shift in how it adapts Mick Herron’s Slough House novels. While previous seasons generally focused on one book each, Season 6—which premiered on September 16, 2026—took the unprecedented step of combining two novels: Joe Country and Slough House. This condensed narrative approach has significantly accelerated the show’s timeline.

Season 8 is set to adapt the ninth novel in the series, titled Clown Town. Because the television adaptation is moving through the books faster than Mick Herron is publishing them, speculation regarding a potential series finale has increased. Chung noted in recent remarks that while the cast remains focused on the current filming schedule, there is no official word yet on a ninth season, as the production is catching up to the available literature.

Production Leadership and Season 8 Plot

The eighth season will see a change in the writers’ room. Ben Vanstone has stepped in as the lead writer for the upcoming seasons, following the departure of Will Smith after Season 5. Adam Randall, who has previously directed for the series, is returning to helm the new episodes.

Narratively, Season 8 is expected to lean into the high-stakes political maneuvering that defines the series. Reported plot details suggest an “explosive confrontation” between the slovenly but brilliant Jackson Lamb and MI5’s Diana Taverner. The conflict reportedly stems from a blackmail attempt directed at the MI5 leadership, forcing the residents of Slough House into a direct collision with the Park’s highest-ranking officials.

The show’s long-term arc has also been bolstered by the return of original cast members. Olivia Cooke, who played Sid Baker in the first season, returned to the cast in Season 6. Her reappearance adds a layer of continuity as the show enters what could be its final chapters, depending on whether Herron releases further books or if the production chooses to move beyond the established novels.

For now, fans of the series can expect a steady stream of content. With Season 7 already in the can and Season 8 currently in front of cameras, the residents of Slough House are likely to remain on screens through at least 2028.
