Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has unveiled a sprawling, meticulously detailed Minecraft metropolis that he has been building in secret for the past 12 years. Now a studio analyst for NBC’s Football Night in America, Tomlin debuted the project in a YouTube series produced by his son, Dino Tomlin, providing a first look at a virtual world that has served as a private creative outlet since 2014.
The first episode of the series, titled “EP 1: ROOFTOPS, PENTHOUSES, AND URBAN LIVING,” premiered around October 1, 2026. The reveal showcases a level of urban planning and architectural obsession that mirrors the detail-oriented nature of Tomlin’s 19-season tenure in the NFL. According to the reveal, the project began as a way for Tomlin to connect with his children, but he continued to expand the digital environment long after his kids grew out of the game.
The scale of the city is massive, featuring high-rise penthouses, a fully realized aquarium, and a complete Major League Soccer (MLS) stadium.
While Tomlin is widely recognized for his “CEO” leadership style on the sidelines, the Minecraft project highlights a hands-on, solitary side of his personality.
The timing of the reveal follows Tomlin’s departure from the Pittsburgh Steelers in January 2026. After nearly two decades leading the franchise, his transition to broadcasting has seemingly provided the space to share his 12-year hobby with the public. The Guardian reports that the project reflects a surprising digital legacy for a coach known for his stoic professional demeanor.
The series is expected to continue with future installments, as the first video was explicitly labeled as “Part 1.” Fans and gaming enthusiasts have noted the irony of Tomlin maintaining a professional record without a losing season while simultaneously and meticulously constructing a complex virtual world in his spare time. Despite social media rumors suggesting the project took nearly two decades, Tomlin confirmed the timeline began in 2014, making it a 12-year endeavor.
