The Coalition released Gears of War: E-Day Update 1.0 on October 5, 2026, one day ahead of the title’s global launch. This update addresses critical progression blocks and stability issues identified during the early access period, ensuring the game is ready for its wide release on October 6, 2026.
This Day One patch focuses on cooperative play and the new Horde Siege mode. A primary fix targets the “Bilefrog-Kalona” error, which previously caused split-screen players to be signed out after suspending and resuming their session.
Campaign and Progression Fixes
Update 1.0 resolves several scripting issues that prevented players from advancing through the narrative. Joining players will also no longer receive unearned War Journal progress or Forge rewards that were completed by the host before the second player entered the session.
- Act 2, Chapter 2: Fixed an issue where objectives failed to update at Allfather’s Plaza.
- Act 4, Chapter 1: Addressed a bug that prevented side objectives from triggering correctly.
- War Journal: Corrected an issue where progress was incorrectly attributed to late-joining lobby members.
Horde Siege and Versus Improvements
Horde Siege received specific adjustments to objective reliability and extraction mechanics. In the “Demolition” Versus mode, a fix was implemented to prevent match stalls caused by interaction timing.
- Extraction: Fixed a bug in Downtown West where extraction helicopters would occasionally fail to appear at the end of a match.
- Siege Blitz: Resolved failures with Secure objectives that could halt wave progression.
- Demolition Mode: Fixed a bug where the bomb could remain stuck in a “defusing” state if the player performing the action was eliminated mid-interaction.
User Interface and Rewards
The update includes several quality-of-life adjustments to the UI and the reward delivery system. According to the official patch notes, players should now see more consistent text scaling for network tools.
- Online Diagnostics: Adjusted the sizing of diagnostic text for better visibility.
- Challenge Mail: Fixed a bug that allowed players to claim the same Challenge Mail rewards multiple times.
- Forge Rewards: Improved the reliability of reward unlocks after completing specific PvE milestones.
Gears of War: E-Day is available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
