Ryan Murphy is set to expand his footprint in the horror genre with a new vampire series titled Brides of Blood. The project, which reimagines the classic Dracula mythos, has officially moved into the production pipeline with filming scheduled to begin in Europe in December 2026.
The series shifts the traditional focus of Bram Stoker’s narrative away from the titular Count, instead centering on the three wives of Dracula. Set in the 1800s, the story is framed as a survivalist drama following the three women as they navigate their existence within the Gothic landscape of the 19th century. This specific historical setting and perspective distinguish the project from previous adaptations that often relegate the brides to secondary or antagonistic roles.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Murphy described the series as a deeply personal endeavor. The project serves as a personal homage to his grandmother. This emotional connection reportedly influenced the development of the series, moving it from a standard genre exercise to a more character-driven exploration of the “brides” and their struggle for autonomy.
While the title Brides of Blood shares a name with a 1968 Filipino horror film, Murphy’s version is an original reimagining of the Stoker source material rather than a remake. The narrative is expected to lean into the personal nature of the project, focusing on the interpersonal dynamics and the harsh realities of the wives’ lives in Europe during the 1800s.
Production logistics are currently being finalized for the December start date. While Murphy maintains active deals with both Disney/FX and Netflix, a specific platform for Brides of Blood has not yet been formally announced. Casting for the three titular roles remains under wraps, though the production’s European filming location suggests a desire for authentic period backdrops consistent with the 19th-century setting.
