The Disney+ series VisionQuest premiered on October 13, 2026, in the United States and October 14 globally, marking the official arrival of what Marvel Studios has marketed as the final chapter in a thematic trilogy. Following the events of WandaVision and Agatha All Along, the new series serves as a direct character-focused sequel to the 2021 hit that first explored the suburban grief of Wanda Maximoff and her synthezoid husband.
Terry Matalas serves as the creator and showrunner for the eight-episode run, which is scheduled to conclude on November 10. While the series is framed as a conclusion to the “WandaVision trilogy,” its narrative focus on the surviving members of the Maximoff family has prompted significant discussion regarding the future of the franchise and the potential for a larger “Children’s Crusade” adaptation.

The Return of Ultron and the Maximoff Twins
A central pillar of the new series is the return of James Spader to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spader reprises his role as Ultron, though the character’s reappearance includes a notable evolution; he is depicted in both his familiar robotic form and a new human-avatar form. This return connects the series back to Vision’s origins in Avengers: Age of Ultron, bridging the character’s past with his current quest for identity.
The series also brings the search for Wanda Maximoff’s children into sharper focus. Ruaridh Mollica joins the cast as an older incarnation of Tommy Maximoff, also known as the speedster Speed. According to IGN, Matalas was able to focus on these character-driven elements without being overly burdened by the broader MCU’s expansive interconnected plotlines.
In addition to Tommy, promotional materials have teased the return of Joe Locke as Billy Maximoff (Wiccan), reprising his role from Agatha All Along. The presence of both twins has fueled speculation that VisionQuest acts as the primary bridge toward a project inspired by the “Avengers: The Children’s Crusade” comic arc, which follows the brothers as they search for their missing mother across the globe.

Timeline and MCU Continuity
Chronologically, VisionQuest is set within the “present day” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically around the year 2028. This placement puts the events of the series in direct parallel with the narrative of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, establishing a consistent timeline for the street-level and supernatural corners of the MCU.
Despite the series being marketed as the capper to the WandaVision era, the integration of new heroes like Speed and the re-establishment of major threats like Ultron suggest that the “trilogy” label may refer more to the end of a specific developmental arc for the Vision and Wanda characters rather than a complete halt to their corner of the universe.
