Peter Safran Reveals Creature Commandos Season 2 Is in Advanced Production

DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran has confirmed that Creature Commandos Season 2 is already in an advanced stage of production, describing the project as “creatively way down the road” compared to other newly announced titles in the DC Universe (DCU) slate. The update reaffirms that the R-rated animated series, which serves as a spiritual successor to Amanda Waller’s Suicide Squad operations, remains a high priority for the studio’s long-term roadmap.

According to James Gunn, the second season is scheduled to premiere in late 2027. This release window places the series shortly after the theatrical debut of Man of Tomorrow. Chronologically, the events of the second season will follow Peacemaker Season 2, creating a direct narrative bridge between the live-action and animated corners of the franchise.

Expanded Roster and Casting

The upcoming season will see the return of the primary task force while expanding the roster of supernatural and monstrous operatives. While Season 1, which premiered on December 5, 2024, established the core team of The Bride, Frankenstein, Doctor Phosphorus, and Weasel, the next chapter introduces significant new players revealed during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Sydney Chandler has joined the cast to voice the character Nosferata. The updated roster for Season 2 also includes:

  • King Shark: The fan-favorite aquatic powerhouse joins the animated lineup.
  • Khalis: A mummy character whose presence adds to the team’s ancient mythological themes.
  • The Core Team: Continued roles for The Bride, Frankenstein, and the volatile Doctor Phosphorus.

Production Stability Post-Merger

The accelerated development of Creature Commandos Season 2 comes amid broader corporate shifts following the Skydance-Warner Bros. merger. Despite the change in parent company leadership, DC Studios appears to be maintaining its original trajectory. Skydance CEO David Ellison reportedly directed Gunn and Safran to “keep doing what you’re doing,” providing the creative team with the autonomy to continue their planned 10-year roadmap.

This stability ensures that the “R-rated” tone of the series—a hallmark of Gunn’s approach to the Waller-adjacent properties—will remain intact. By positioning Season 2 as a post-Superman release, DC Studios is utilizing the animated format to maintain narrative momentum between major live-action tentpoles, effectively making the series the primary engine of the DCU’s animated expansion.
