Kartik Aaryan Leads Operation Raahat Rescue in Shimit Amin’s ‘Captain India’

Kartik Aaryan’s upcoming action-drama, “Captain India,” is currently in the final stages of its London filming schedule, with the production expected to wrap its UK leg by the end of October 2026. The film, which features Aaryan as an Indian Air Force pilot, has officially secured a theatrical release date of August 13, 2027, positioned to capitalize on India’s Independence Day weekend.

The project marks a significant shift for Aaryan into a grittier, high-stakes narrative. The story is set against the backdrop of the Houthi conflict in Yemen and is inspired by the real-world events of “Operation Raahat.” In 2015, this humanitarian mission saw the Indian Armed Forces successfully evacuate over 4,600 Indian citizens and nearly 2,000 foreign nationals from the conflict zone.

One of the most anticipated aspects of the production is the return of director Shimit Amin. Known for modern classics like “Chak De! India” and “Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year,” Amin is stepping back into the director’s chair for a feature film for the first time in 17 years. While Hansal Mehta was originally attached to the project during its early development in 2021, Amin has since taken the helm, bringing a reputation for grounded, character-driven storytelling to the geopolitical rescue drama.

To prepare for the role of a pilot leading this perilous mission, Kartik Aaryan underwent flight training to ensure authenticity in his portrayal. The narrative reportedly focuses on the logistical and emotional challenges of the evacuation, moving beyond standard action tropes to explore the pressure of a rescue operation in a volatile territory.

The cast has also seen the addition of acclaimed actress Parvathy Thiruvothu, who is reported to play a significant role alongside Aaryan. This casting choice further signals the film’s lean toward a more serious, performance-oriented tone.

Principal photography for “Captain India” began on September 1, 2026. Following the conclusion of the London shoot, the production is expected to move into its next phase of filming, though the specific locations for the Yemen-set sequences have not been publicly detailed. The long-term production timeline and the 2027 release date suggest an extensive post-production period, likely required for the visual effects and technical precision involved in recreating the aerial and conflict-heavy environments of the 2015 mission.
