Prime Video’s Fourth Wing Sets April 2027 Filming Start in Vancouver

Production for Prime Video’s highly anticipated adaptation of Fourth Wing is reportedly taking shape with a clear roadmap for filming in 2027. According to production listings, the series is scheduled to film in Vancouver, British Columbia, from April 5, 2027, through November 8, 2027. The project is currently operating under the working title “AZORES.”

The timeline suggests a significant production window for the first season, spanning seven months of principal photography. This schedule follows Amazon MGM Studios’ formal series order in May 2026 and aligns with the recent finalization of the show’s primary cast. While early production trackers once hinted at a potential 2025 start, the move to 2027 indicates a deliberate development cycle for the high-fantasy project.

Production is slated to begin in Vancouver, British Columbia, in early 2027.

The news follows the official confirmation in mid-October 2026 that Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya will lead the series. McGregor is set to star as the protagonist Violet Sorrengail, a cadet in the Basgiath War College, while Sakraya will portray the elite wing leader Xaden Riorson. The casting of these central figures was a major milestone for the production, which is based on the bestselling “Empyrean” book series by Rebecca Yarros.

Behind the scenes, the production has seen some structural adjustments. Meredith Averill serves as the showrunner, having taken over the role from Moira Walley-Beckett in September 2025. The creative team also includes Lisa Joy, who is set to direct the pilot episode and serves as an executive producer alongside Michael B. Jordan. The involvement of Joy’s Kilter Films suggests a focus on the scale and visual complexity required to bring Yarros’ dragon-riding world to life.

The 2027 filming window provides the production team ample time to incorporate elements from the expanding lore of the book series. The television adaptation is moving forward following the release of the companion story collection, Threshing Day, which debuted on September 29, 2026. This additional source material may offer further depth to the world-building as the showrunners finalize scripts ahead of the Vancouver shoot.

While the filming dates are now established in industry reports, Prime Video has not yet announced a specific release date. However, a production cycle ending in late 2027 typically points toward a premiere in mid-to-late 2028, allowing for the extensive post-production work required for a series centered on dragon combat and magical effects.
