iOS 27.2 Adds Apple Pencil Support and Edge Light to iPhone Duo

Apple has officially brought stylus support to its first foldable device, launching a significant update just days after the hardware’s initial debut. Released on October 26, 2026, iOS 27.2 enables Apple Pencil functionality for the iPhone Duo, allowing users to utilize the folding screen for note-taking and navigation.

The update confirms that stylus input is compatible with both the 7.6-inch folding inner display and the 5.4-inch outer cover screen. However, the implementation differs significantly from the experience found on the iPad Pro or iPad Air due to the specific hardware design of the iPhone Duo.

Hardware Requirements and Compatibility

Owners looking to use a stylus with the iPhone Duo must use the Apple Pencil (USB-C) model. According to official hardware specifications, the high-end Apple Pencil Pro and older Lightning-based models are currently incompatible.

Because the iPhone Duo does not feature the magnetic charging rails found on iPad models, the pairing and charging process requires a physical connection. Users must connect the Apple Pencil to the device using a USB-C cable to sync the two devices or to replenish the stylus battery.

The 7.6-inch internal display features a nano-texture finish, designed to provide a more tactile surface for writing compared to standard gloss glass. Despite the added screen real estate, there are notable technical trade-offs for creative professionals. The iPhone Duo currently lacks support for Apple Pencil hover and pressure sensitivity. This positions the Pencil on the Duo more as a precision tool for document markup and navigation rather than a full-scale digital illustration tablet.

Edge Light and Video Calling Enhancements

Beyond stylus support, iOS 27.2 introduces “Edge Light,” a feature ported from macOS Tahoe. This software enhancement transforms the perimeter of the iPhone Duo’s display into a virtual ring light during video calls. By illuminating the screen borders with a soft, high-intensity glow, the feature provides improved front-facing lighting for FaceTime and third-party conferencing apps in low-light environments.

The update also includes a significant expansion for Siri AI. The system’s localized intelligence now supports five additional languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.

The release of iOS 27.2 delivers these productivity features for early adopters of the foldable hardware. The update is available now as an over-the-air download for all iPhone Duo users.
