Marvel Studios is moving forward with its long-anticipated Ghost Rider reboot, securing a primary antagonist to face off against Ryan Gosling’s Johnny Blaze. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, breakout star Connor Storrie is currently in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the film’s central villain.

Storrie’s casting follows a rapid ascent in Hollywood, largely driven by his performance as Ilya Rozanov in the hit series Heated Rivalry. His transition to the MCU marks a significant step for the actor, who recently appeared in a brief but pivotal role in Joker: Folie à Deux. While the specific Marvel character Storrie will portray has not been officially revealed, his role is described as the primary antagonist to Gosling’s Spirit of Vengeance.

Production for the film is scheduled to begin in New York City in 2027.

Production Details and Visual Style

The project reunites Ryan Gosling with director Shawn Levy. The duo is currently finishing work on Star Wars: Starfighter before shifting focus to the supernatural corner of the MCU. The script for the reboot is being penned by Jonathan Tropper, who previously collaborated with Levy on The Adam Project.

In a shift from the digital-heavy aesthetic of recent Marvel entries, Ghost Rider will be shot on celluloid film. Oscar-winning cinematographer Linus Sandgren, known for his work on La La Land and No Time to Die, has been hired to oversee the film’s visual direction. This technical choice suggests a gritty, tactile aesthetic intended to ground the supernatural elements of the character’s mythology.

Filming Schedule and Release Date

Marvel Studios has scheduled Ghost Rider for a theatrical release on July 28, 2028. Production is slated to begin in New York City in 2027. This timeline allows Gosling and Levy to complete their current obligations before beginning the physical demands of the action-heavy production.

The addition of Storrie settles recent industry speculation regarding the film’s casting hierarchy. While some initial reports suggested the Heated Rivalry star might be appearing as a secondary hero or a co-lead, current industry reports now place him firmly in the villainous lead role. Fans have speculated that Storrie could be playing established Marvel demonic figures such as Blackheart or a modern iteration of Mephisto, though Marvel has not confirmed these theories.

The film will mark the first time Johnny Blaze has headlined a solo feature since 2012, and it serves as the character’s formal introduction to the shared continuity of the MCU.
