Fallen Tree Games has released update 10.014.001 for The Precinct, introducing a new “Vehicular Homicide” offense to the 1980s police simulation. The patch, which went live on October 27, 2026, primarily focuses on the PlayStation 5 version while delivering technical refinements for players on PC and Steam Deck.

Expanded Crime Detection and Vehicle Controls

The most significant addition to the crime system is the “Vehicular Homicide” offense. This allows the game to detect and categorize instances where drivers kill NPCs in collisions, expanding the range of legal infractions players must manage.

Emergency vehicle operations have also been refined. Players can now switch to a “lights-only” mode by holding the Cycle Siren control while the siren is active. This provides more tactical flexibility during silent approaches or when managing traffic without audio cues.

Visual updates have been applied to specific 1980s-inspired vehicle models. The Astro vehicle’s tinted rear window has been replaced with a louvre, a period-appropriate automotive detail that aligns the car’s aesthetic more closely with the era’s design trends.

AI Behavior and Mission Pathfinding

The update addresses several AI-related issues that previously impacted mission flow and immersion:

  • Armored Truck Navigation: Pathfinding has been improved for Armored Truck missions, specifically addressing AI navigation difficulties around the rear of missions and on difficult terrain.
  • K-9 Units: A bug has been fixed where K-9 partners would no longer continue to bite suspects after the dog had been teleported.

Technical Fixes and Accessibility

For players using handheld hardware or gamepads, the update resolves a conflict where Steam Deck settings would occasionally override manual player configurations. This ensures that custom graphics and control layouts remain persistent across sessions.

Navigation within menus has been improved for gamepad users. Players can now use the right stick on their controller to scroll through keyboard bindings in the settings menu. According to UpdateCrazy, these changes are part of a broader effort to stabilize the experience across all supported platforms.

Gameplay Impact Analysis

The addition of the lights-only toggle and Vehicular Homicide detection suggests a move toward deeper simulation accuracy. By improving Armored Truck pathfinding, the developers have addressed a common friction point in missions where AI vehicles would previously struggle with environment geometry. These changes, combined with the Steam Deck configuration fix, provide a more stable foundation for the game’s sandbox police work.
