Rockstar Games has moved the preload date for Grand Theft Auto VI forward to November 10, 2026, ahead of the title’s global launch on November 19. Alongside this scheduling shift, the studio confirmed that the game will require up to 212 GB of storage space, making it one of the largest installations in modern gaming.
The revised timeline gives players nine days to manage the download before servers go live. For digital pre-orders on PlayStation 5, the preload becomes available at midnight local time on November 10. Xbox Series X|S users will follow a global release schedule, with the download opening at 12 AM GMT on November 10 (7 PM ET / 4 PM PT on November 9).
Physical Editions and Storage Demands
The 212 GB installation size presents a significant logistics hurdle for console owners. On a standard PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, this requirement could consume between 30% and 50% of the usable internal SSD space, depending on the specific model and existing library. This massive footprint has likely influenced Rockstar’s decision to stagger the preload dates and offer physical retail options early.
According to PlayStation Universe, retail versions of Grand Theft Auto VI will be available in stores starting November 12, 2026. However, these physical editions are “code-in-box” products, meaning they do not contain a physical disc. Instead, they provide a digital voucher that allows physical buyers to begin the lengthy download process a full week before the official launch day.
The Map of Leonida
While previous entries in the Grand Theft Auto series famously included a fold-out paper map within the game case, Rockstar is moving away from that tradition for the standard retail release of GTA 6. The physical map of Leonida—which features the game’s world on one side and official cover art on the other—is not included in the “code-in-box” retail package.
Instead, Rockstar Games will offer the physical double-sided map as a separate item through the official Rockstar Store for $0.99 shortly after the game’s release. For those who prefer a digital reference, a high-resolution file of the Leonida map will be available for free download on the Rockstar website starting November 19.
Reports from IGN indicate that the decision to separate the map from the standard box aligns with the shift toward disc-less physical media. By making the map available as a low-cost standalone item or a free digital file, the studio provides an alternative for collectors while acknowledging the transition to a predominantly digital distribution model.
With the launch less than three weeks away, the November 10 preload window serves as the final countdown for players to prepare their hardware for the return to Vice City and the broader state of Leonida.
