Bear Grylls has spoken out following the conviction of Russell Brand, stating that “justice has now been served” after the comedian and activist was found guilty of multiple counts of sexual violence. Grylls, who faced public scrutiny for his association with Brand during a high-profile baptism in 2024, characterized the survivors of Brand’s attacks as “heroes” in a statement following the verdict.

The verdict was delivered on November 5, 2026, ending a high-profile trial where Brand was convicted of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. Following the jury’s decision, Judge Joel Bennathan denied Brand bail and remanded him in custody. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday, November 9, 2026.

The Reversal from Support to Justice

The comments from Grylls mark a significant shift in tone from the survivalist’s previous public stance. In May 2024, Grylls assisted in Russell Brand’s baptism in the River Thames, an event Brand widely publicized as part of a spiritual “new chapter.” At the time, Grylls emphasized a message of faith and non-judgment, defending his participation as part of his commitment to supporting those seeking a religious path.

However, following the criminal conviction, Grylls’ focus turned entirely toward the legal outcome and the bravery of the witnesses. According to reporting from Variety, Grylls stated that the conclusion of the trial represented the proper functioning of the legal system and praised the victims for their role in the proceedings.

Trial Details and Split Verdict

The jury reached a split verdict after deliberating on seven total counts. While Russell Brand was convicted of rape and sexual assault across four counts, he was acquitted of two counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault. Despite the acquittals on three charges, the seriousness of the four guilty counts led the prosecution to successfully argue for his immediate remand.

The trial was notably shaped by specific evidentiary rulings. To ensure the jury focused strictly on the criminal allegations at hand, Judge Bennathan barred the mention of Brand’s high-profile marriage to pop star Katy Perry. Additionally, details regarding Brand’s history of substance abuse were excluded from the testimony to prevent potential bias in the jury’s deliberation process.

Ongoing Investigations

While Brand awaits his November 9 sentencing for the four counts, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the legal pressure on the comedian is not over. Authorities are currently investigating two further rape allegations against Brand that were not part of the initial trial.

The Metropolitan Police stated that these additional investigations remain active, though no further charges have been filed at this stage. Brand remains in custody as he awaits the court’s decision on his final sentence.
