Fans of the CBS hit comedy Ghosts looking for a new episode on Thursday, November 5, 2026, will find the Woodstone Mansion dark. The series is currently on a planned hiatus following its Season 6 premiere, as the network shifts to a “holiday bridge” programming strategy for its most popular sitcom.

The absence of a new episode tonight is not a cancellation but a deliberate scheduling choice. After airing the two-part Halloween special, “Halloween 6: The Mirror,” on October 29, CBS is spacing out its remaining 2026 content to lead into a larger midseason launch.

When does Ghosts return with new episodes?

The next new episode of Ghosts is officially scheduled for Thursday, December 10, 2026. Titled “GHOSTSMAS,” this Christmas special is expected to serve as the final new installment of the year. During San Diego Comic-Con, producers teased that the holiday event will feature a Die Hard-inspired theme, bringing a high-stakes action parody to the hauntingly festive manor.

Viewers can expect the following release timeline for the remainder of Season 6:

  • November 5 – December 3, 2026: No new episodes (Encores or alternative programming).
  • December 10, 2026: “GHOSTSMAS” Christmas Special.
  • Midseason 2027 (January/February): Full weekly episodes resume.

Why CBS is delaying the regular Season 6 run

The decision to hold the bulk of Season 6 until early 2027 is a strategic move by CBS to bolster its Thursday night lineup. By delaying the regular weekly run, the network is providing a stronger launchpad for its newest comedies, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and Eternally Yours. The holiday specials act as “bridge” content, keeping the Ghosts audience engaged through the fall while saving the main season arc for a continuous run in the new year.

This staggered schedule also accommodates behind-the-scenes changes. The Season 6 narrative has already addressed the temporary absence of Samantha (Rose McIver). Within the show, Sam is currently in Australia filming a movie—a plot point designed to cover McIver’s real-life maternity leave for her second child. In her stead, Ben Feldman has joined the main cast as Kyle, a new character tasked with helping “babysit” the spirits while Sam is away.

For those looking to catch up during the hiatus, the first five seasons and the Season 6 premiere are available for streaming on Paramount+. Subscribers to Paramount+ with Showtime can stream the series live when it returns in December, while all other subscribers can access new episodes on-demand the following day.
