Palo Alto Networks is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire Clutch Security, an Israeli startup specializing in non-human identity (NHI) security, for approximately $500 million. The move, first reported by The Information on November 4, 2026, highlights an aggressive effort to secure the credentials and permissions used by autonomous AI agents as they become standard in enterprise workflows.

Palo Alto Networks has officially declined to comment on the reports, describing them as “rumors or speculation.” Clutch Security has not yet issued a formal response regarding the potential sale.

The reported $500 million price tag represents a significant “AI premium” in the current cybersecurity M&A market. Clutch was valued at approximately $85 million during its last private funding round, meaning the acquisition price would reflect a nearly six-fold increase in valuation in less than two years. The startup has raised a total of $28.5 million to date, including an $8.5 million seed round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners in July 2024 and a $20 million Series A led by SignalFire in January 2025.

The acquisition would bolster Palo Alto Networks’ capabilities in the NHI sector, which focuses on managing the “identities” of software, bots, and AI agents rather than human users. This layer of security has become a primary concern for CISOs as AI agents increasingly interact with sensitive enterprise data through automated API calls and long-lived tokens. Analysts suggest that Clutch’s technology would likely be integrated into Palo Alto’s Prisma AIRS (AI Runtime Security) platform to provide visibility into how autonomous agents utilize credentials.

This deal follows a massive period of consolidation for Palo Alto Networks. In February 2026, the company completed a $25 billion acquisition of CyberArk, a move that solidified its dominance in the broader identity security market. The addition of Clutch would specifically address the niche but rapidly growing threat surface of agentic AI.

Founded in late 2023 by Ofir Har-Chen, Sagi Haas, and Tal Kimhi, Clutch Security emerged to solve the “shadow identity” problem, where developers grant autonomous tools excessive permissions that are rarely revoked. If the acquisition closes, it would mark one of the fastest exits for a startup in the NHI space, reflecting the industry’s shift toward consolidated platforms that manage both human and machine identities under a single architectural roof.
