Following his conviction on charges of rape and sexual assault, Russell Brand is reportedly under constant supervision while being held in remand. The 51-year-old was convicted on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Southwark Crown Court, and is currently awaiting a sentencing hearing scheduled for Monday, November 9.

Brand is being monitored “around the clock” by prison staff as a safety precaution during his initial days in custody. This level of oversight, often referred to in the UK prison system as Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT), is frequently utilized for high-profile inmates or those assessed for potential safety concerns. Reports indicate these measures were implemented following Brand’s distressed reaction to the jury’s verdict, with multiple outlets describing the comedian as “petrified” as he was led away.

The conviction follows a high-profile trial involving four separate women who came forward with allegations dating between 2004 and 2009. The jury found Brand guilty of one count of rape involving an incident at his Hampstead home in 2009, along with three counts of sexual assault occurring at the offices of MTV, Choice FM, and Channel 4. According to ITV News, Brand was remanded in custody immediately after the verdict was delivered on Thursday.

Bail Denial and Flight Risk Concerns

Judge Joel Bennathan denied an application for bail, citing specific concerns that Brand might flee rather than appear for his sentencing. The defense had argued for his release to address family matters, but the judge noted that any “hardship” caused to Brand’s children was a direct consequence of his “serious criminal offending.”

While the jury reached guilty verdicts on four counts, Brand was acquitted of three other charges, including two counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault. These charges were part of the same trial but involved separate evidence and testimonies.

Brand was transferred from Southwark Crown Court to a secure facility—likely HMP Wandsworth or Belmarsh, though the specific location has not been officially confirmed by the Ministry of Justice. He is expected to remain under high-frequency monitoring until he returns to court on Monday to learn the length of his custodial sentence.
