A collaboration between confectionery manufacturer UHA Mikakuto and Capcom has introduced a new category of gaming merchandise: drinkable trading cards. Titled “Energy Arts,” the product features 24 variations of characters from Street Fighter 6, including iconic fighters such as Ryu, Dhalsim, E. Honda, Jamie, and Vega.
The product recently gained renewed attention in November 2026 after being highlighted in a Japanese television segment discussing projected hit products for the coming year. While the cards first went on sale in Japan in January 2026, their unique “UX” design—which allows for consumption in roughly 0.5 seconds—has triggered a second wave of viral interest among esports enthusiasts and collectors.
The Mechanics of a Drinkable Card
Unlike traditional trading cards made of cardstock, Energy Arts cards serve as single-use novelty packaging. Each card contains 12ml of a concentrated liquid energy shot. To consume the drink, a user must bend the card until a center seam snaps open, allowing the liquid to be squeezed directly into the mouth.
Because the consumption method requires the card to be physically snapped or folded, the process effectively ends the card’s status as a pristine collectible. While the cards feature high-quality Street Fighter 6 character art, they are not designed for use in an established trading card game (TCG).
The product’s development involved a crowdfunding campaign on Makuake, which raised over 4 million yen, significantly surpassing its initial 300,000 yen goal. According to reporting from IGN, the retail pricing during the crowdfunding period was approximately 3,213 yen for a 10-pack of cards.
Amino Acid Science and Development
The liquid inside the cards was developed in collaboration with Kindai University’s pharmaceutical department to ensure safety and efficacy. Unlike most standard energy drinks that rely on high doses of caffeine, the Energy Arts formula is entirely caffeine-free.
Instead, the 12ml concentrate utilizes a high concentration of amino acids. Each card contains:
- 1,000mg of Arginine
- 1,000mg of Citrulline
This specific formulation is intended to provide a quick boost for gamers without the jittery effects often associated with caffeine-heavy products.
Addressing Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh Speculation
The viral success of the Street Fighter cards has led many fans on social media to predict or request similar versions for other major franchises. Specifically, there has been significant speculation regarding potential Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh iterations, given those brands’ deep roots in trading card culture.
However, these claims remain entirely within the realm of fan speculation. There have been no official IP filings or announcements from The Pokémon Company, Konami, or UHA Mikakuto suggesting that other franchises are adopting the drinkable card format. As of now, the technology remains exclusive to the Street Fighter collaboration.
As noted by Kotaku, the product represents one of the more unusual intersections of gaming culture and functional nutrition, prioritizing a specific “snap-and-drink” utility over long-term archival value.
