The upcoming Girls revival on HBO will proceed without its most significant male lead. Adam Driver confirmed on November 7, 2026, that he will not reprise his role as Adam Sackler in the newly greenlit project, ending speculation about the character’s return.

Speaking at a red carpet event for his new film Paper Tiger, Driver provided a direct response when asked about his involvement in the series. “No, but I wish them the best of luck,” Driver stated, marking a definitive end for a character who served as the primary romantic foil to Hannah Horvath throughout the show’s original six-season run.

The revival, which HBO officially greenlit in October 2026, is structured as a five-episode limited “addendum” rather than a traditional seventh season. Despite Driver’s absence, the core cast remains largely intact. Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, and Zosia Mamet are all confirmed to return, alongside Andrew Rannells as Elijah Krantz. Production for the revival is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027.

The confirmation of Driver’s absence follows the April 2026 release of Dunham’s memoir, Famesick, which offered new insights into the working relationship between the two leads. In the book, Dunham alleged that Driver was occasionally verbally aggressive on set, including one specific claim that he once threw a chair near her. While Driver did not elaborate on his reasons for declining the revival, the memoir’s release has provided a backdrop of reported tension that aligns with the decision to exclude Adam Sackler from the new narrative.

The new episodes are expected to explore the lives of the central characters as they navigate their early 40s, roughly 10 years after the events of the series finale. While the original series ended with Hannah Horvath moving to upstate New York to raise her son, the revival’s five-episode format suggests a condensed look at how the group’s dynamics have shifted over a decade apart.
