Netflix is developing a new mystery action thriller titled Scope, a project that reimagines the voyeuristic suspense of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window through a modern military lens. According to a new spec script acquisition, the film will be directed by Ray Mendoza, who co-directed the 2025 film Warfare.
The project is being produced by Jaume Collet-Serra through his Jadis Collective banner. Unlike the civilian protagonists of previous versions of this story, Scope follows a battle-hardened special forces operator who discovers a mystery in his suburban neighborhood while recovering from an injury.
Action-Driven Suspense
The screenplay was written by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides—the creative duo behind the hit anime series Blood of Zeus—alongside Scott Charnick. While the film is being compared to the psychological tension of Rear Window and the 2007 contemporary remake Disturbia, Scope is framed as an action-heavy reimagining. The protagonist’s military expertise serves as the catalyst for how the mystery is investigated and eventually confronted.
The collaboration between Mendoza and Collet-Serra continues a productive relationship for the creative team at Netflix. Collet-Serra’s production company, Jadis Collective, has become a central fixture in the streamer’s action slate. The move to cast a special forces operator in the lead role marks a shift in the subgenre, moving away from the feeling of helplessness often associated with recovery-based thrillers toward a more tactical, proactive response to perceived threats.
Details regarding casting for the lead operator or a specific production timeline have not yet been disclosed. The acquisition of the script in September 2026 positions the film as a high-priority development for the platform as it expands its library of original action-thriller content.
