Longtime writer and executive producer Scott Reynolds confirmed that filming wrapped on September 19, 2026, following a 23-week production cycle primarily staged on location in New York City.
The conclusion of filming aligns with the upcoming 20th anniversary of the original Dexter pilot, which first aired on October 1, 2006. Positioning the sequel as a cornerstone of the franchise’s anniversary month, Paramount+ with Showtime has scheduled the Season 2 premiere for October 30, 2026.
A New Narrative Landscape in New York
Season 2 is set to introduce a significant narrative shift through a three-year time jump from the events of the Season 1 finale. This leap finds Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan established in New York City, transitioning the character into a more seasoned vigilante. According to production details, this older iteration of the character will rely more on tactical planning and “brain than brawn” to navigate the complexities of his new urban environment.
The move to New York also introduces a fresh gallery of antagonists. Brian Cox has joined the cast as the “New York Ripper,” while Dan Stevens is set to portray the “Five Borough Killer.” Director and executive producer Marcos Siega, who shared updates from the set throughout the 23-week shoot, also confirmed the presence of returning cast members, including Desmond Harrington, alongside Hall.
