Ema, an enterprise AI startup led by former Coinbase and Google executive Surojit Chatterjee, has secured $77 million in a Series B funding round announced Wednesday. The investment reflects a growing shift in the enterprise software market, where autonomous AI agents are beginning to perform end-to-end tasks traditionally handled by human workers using expensive per-seat software licenses.
The round was led by Bengaluru-based Creaegis, with additional participation from Accel, Section 32, and Prosus Ventures. This latest injection brings Ema’s total funding to $140 million and reportedly quadruples the company’s valuation from its previous round in 2024.
The Shift from Seats to Outcomes
Ema’s core strategy, described as “SaaS-as-a-database,” challenges the traditional model of software-as-a-service (SaaS). Instead of companies purchasing individual licenses for platforms like Workday, ServiceNow, or SAP for their employees to use, Ema’s “Universal AI Employees” act as the execution layer. In this model, legacy SaaS applications function as repositories of data, while Ema’s agents navigate these systems to complete complex workflows in HR, IT, and Finance.

This approach allows enterprises to move away from per-seat pricing toward outcome-based models. Ema reports that it has already gained significant traction with over 50 enterprise customers, including major names such as Google, Microsoft, ADP, and PwC. The company claims a 180% net dollar retention rate—a metric indicating that existing customers are significantly increasing their spending on the platform over time.
Technical Infrastructure and Model Routing
To handle the complexity of enterprise workflows while maintaining data privacy, Ema utilizes a proprietary “Generative Workflow Engine” alongside a technology called EmaFusion. Rather than relying on a single large language model, EmaFusion routes tasks across more than 150 different public and private AI models. This routing logic is designed to select the most accurate and cost-effective model for a specific task while ensuring that sensitive corporate data remains secure.
Growth and Global Expansion
The company’s rapid scaling is evidenced by its reported 50x revenue growth over the past 24 months. With more than one million active users now interacting with its agents, Ema plans to use the new capital to expand its footprint in the Asia-Pacific region, South America, and the Middle East.
Chatterjee, who previously served as the Chief Product Officer at Coinbase and a Vice President at Google, has positioned Ema to capitalize on the “agentic” era of AI. As enterprises look to reduce the overhead associated with manual data entry and software management, Ema’s focus on autonomous execution represents a structural threat to the traditional license-heavy business models of established software vendors.
