Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled the “Muse Charm,” a standalone handheld AI device designed to function as a dedicated portal for the company’s Muse AI agent. Announced during the Meta Connect 2026 keynote, the hardware aims to provide “phone-free” access to generative AI tools for users who prefer not to wear smart glasses.
The Muse Charm is currently in the prototype phase, with Meta targeting a holiday 2026 shipping window. The device is designed to be worn on a lanyard and features an integrated screen, a camera, and a microphone array. Unlike existing wearables that rely heavily on a tethered smartphone connection, the Charm is intended to interact directly with Meta’s AI infrastructure to perform “agentic” tasks, such as booking travel, managing emails, and shopping autonomously.
The hardware serves as the physical anchor for the Muse AI agent, which Meta officially launched across iOS, Android, and web platforms on September 8, 2026.
Meta is positioning the Muse Charm as part of a three-tier hardware strategy revealed for the 2026-2027 cycle. Zuckerberg noted during the keynote that the Charm specifically addresses a market segment that wants the utility of a wearable AI assistant without the social or physical requirements of head-mounted hardware.
The device’s hardware configuration includes a microphone array for voice interaction, though specific details regarding the final production sensor count remain under refinement.
As the device moves from prototype to production over the next year, Meta is expected to clarify how the lanyard-based camera handles image stabilization and persistent environmental awareness compared to its glasses-based counterparts.
